The Marigny Opera House

REVIEWS

Ambush Magazine

Steve Schepker’s multi-story set well-utilizes the Marigny Opera House’s vast height; his situating Blanche’s section of the Kowalski apartment downstage allows for a different and very effective perspective than most designers achieve for these cramped quarters.

The Times Picayune

That mean world is brought to life by a talented team of designers who evoke the romance and danger inherent in French Quarter living. The lofty set design by Steve Schepker incorporates storm shutters and wrought iron balconies to embody local architecture, all set within the decayed elegance of the Marigny Opera House.

Out All Day: New Orleans

Streetcar is a uniquely challenging show to stage, and they have once again outdone themselves. The simultaneously grand and decrepit backdrop of the Marigny Opera House (located in the deconsecrated Trinity Church, built 1853) is exactly right for the smoky, voluminous jazz soundscapes and a detailed set that maximizes the small but functional performance space.

Broadway World - New Orleans

The world of STREETCAR is imagined through the eyes of a talented team of designers who effectively captured life on Elysian Fields. Steve Schepker’s set involves maximum transparency in creating the cramped downstairs apartment. At the same time, storm shutters, iron stairs and dance poles evoke New Orleans intrigue.
